I’ve heard many people say they prefer experiences to things. It’s true for me as well.
Yet, in my day-to-day life, many “things” make life easier, richer, warmer and more meaningful and I am sometimes oblivious to them.
When I consider my favorite spatula which my mom used to use with all its dents, dings and partially melted handle, I can’t imagine making cookies without it. She used it and somehow, every time I use it, we’re connected.
I have favorite pens, water bottles and shoes – when I use them, I’m more comfortable and somehow it makes me feel better. Favorite jeans, car and bedding – all of which I feel better about. The sweats and slippers I happily wear for Zoom meetings and to relax at night are mood lifters as well as comfort givers.
I’m grateful for the technology that allows me to work from home as easily as I work in person with the joy that comes with both. I am grateful for the variety and enjoy delivering work I love to people I love while making a difference no longer limited by location.
Day 10: What things give you joy? What things are you grateful for at home and in your work? What memories or feelings do they evoke? Be present to all the “things” in your world today and give thanks as you notice them.
