“Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change.” – Bob Kerrey
Have you ever received an unexpected gift or an act of service? How did you feel? Exactly. It’s described perfectly in the quote above. And the person on the other side, the one serving or offering the gift is equally joyful.
Every day we’re in session, Ali casually sets out a cup with my favorite tea in it. She noticed I would have it every day during the cold months. One day, she took it upon herself to ensure it was on the table and waiting for me. I’m not sure why, but she began.
Every day we’re in the office, it’s a small gesture that expresses care and love and makes my day a bit brighter. It’s not a big thing, it’s a thoughtful thing. Every day, I appreciate her for it.
Imagine how our world might transform if we all adopted this simple practice.
Day 17: Consider offering a random act of kindness today. It can be an act of service or something else. You could pay for something for the person behind you in the drive through line, pay someone’s parking, send a coffee or lunch to your online meeting partner, make dinner unexpectedly or bring a treat to a friend or loved one. Let your mind wander and just for fun see what happens.
