Life has inevitable ups and downs – moments of triumph and moments that bring us to our knees. I’ve learned that when we encounter difficult times, we must allow ourselves to fully experience our emotions to come out the other side and land on our feet.
There’s authenticity in giving ourselves permission to feel bad. Instead of brushing aside those feelings of sadness, frustration, or uncertainty, we need to allow ourselves to actually feel our feelings…all of them. When we cover them up, we’re actually prolonging the pain.
Eventually (but only after we’ve had our feelings), there comes a point when we tire of feeling bad. We’re ready to let go of sadness, negativity, and frustration. Slowly but surely, we’ll find ourselves seeking activities that uplift our spirits again.
At the end of the day, life is a cycle of acknowledging the lows, fully embracing them, and actively working our way back to the highs.
It’s okay to feel it all. You’ve got this.
