During my many years in business, I’ve learned something that may seem counterintuitive at first: structure is the key to freedom and creativity.
When everything’s in order, it’s as if your mind can finally take a deep breath. You know that peaceful, clear feeling, right? But let’s face it, without structure, chaos can take over – it’s like trying to write a symphony with a broken piano.
I’ve realized that simplicity in business isn’t about making things less complex; it’s about nailing down your structure. This allows us as leaders to focus on developing more leaders, with the real goal of having a team of leaders surrounding you – not a team of helpers where you can become the bottleneck to real progress.
If you find yourself glued to your phone any time you’re away from the office, it’s time to reevaluate the structure you have supporting you. Do you have too many helpers, and not enough leaders and managers? Your job isn’t to micromanage; it’s about training decision-makers that can function independently within the structure you’ve agreed upon. That takes time, intention, and attention from you.
If this blog is hitting home, it’s a cue to level up your leadership and management. How your team is performing is your feedback – where do you need to improve?
