Lessons at 1500 Blogs #1500

by Sue Hawkes

Wowza! 1500 blogs. Thanks for playing along with us. For those who continue to read and share, we’re so, so grateful for you.

It’s a time of gratitude, clarity, and uncertainty for me. With that being said, my reflections may ramble in any of those directions right now, as I share what I’m present to at this time.

  1. I’ve discontinued my news intake for the past few months, and found that my sense of peace, hope, and renewal has increased. Also, I am only participating on social media in very limited doses and that contributes to time and space for more rewarding opportunities. I must say, I still enjoy bursts of dog videos, music mashups, and sharing memes with a group of very special people to me. That may never change. My lesson: humor and levity for the win.
  1. Ali and I have been on a health plan, losing weight and focusing on healthy habits in many regards. We are both shrinking our sizes, and I’m finding that has brought clarity in other ways. It’s reminding me how stress impacts my habits from eating, to drinking, to caffeine intake. I’m grateful to be moving toward optimal health as I have a big birthday coming. I’m grateful to be doing this with Ali as we support each other on the more challenging days. My lesson: Never change habits alone, it sticks because you’re surrounded by support.
  1. We’re launching new offerings based on the entirety of our work over the past 30 years (yes you heard that right, 30 … gulp), and it’s going really well, it feels fantastic, and is exciting to see it grow us and our capacity. Please check it out if you are facing any kind of leadership deficit, we’re finding most of our clients do not have a leadership pipeline. We’ve got a solution to sustainable development. Please ask us and share with everyone you know. We couldn’t be more excited. My lesson: It feels really good to offer our best work in new ways. We couldn’t be more excited to build our community and impact. There’s always the next chapter if you’re willing to seek it.
  1. When the bulk of your day is spent doing what you love with people you love, it’s easy, fun, and your energy builds. The first sign something isn’t right is when it’s difficult, you put it off, or it feels funky. My lesson: Trust your intuition, ALWAYS. Act swiftly, there’s no need to wait.
  1. In the face of uncertainty, tap into who you are, why things matter to you, and what you’re best at. That is your bedrock, and will get you moving forward, even in the face of uncertainty. When you boil it all down, it’s always uncertain, we are simply present to it in that moment. Face forward, trust yourself and the kindness of others, and make the indelible mark you were put on this earth to make. Everyone will be better for it. My lesson: No one is getting out of here alive, don’t wait for the outside world’s permission, it’s likely never going to arrive anyway. Go for it! Life is too short to overthink it.
  1. When in doubt, take care of yourself. Be kind to you first. You will only be kind to others when you take care of yourself as well. My lesson: It’s not selfish to take care of yourself. This time of year requires it.

Thanks again for reading and coming on this journey with me.
