The First Step to Peace #823

by Sue Hawkes

Have you ever thought about how little your opinion matters?

I have. I’m not speaking to you specifically; I’m speaking about the collective.

Opinion is really the lowest form of commentary.

You don’t have to understand all that’s occurring or consider facts or consequences. You really have no accountability other than spewing what you believe is the “right” way to see things.

If we could suspend our opinions long enough to empathize, truly considering the details and people involved, welcoming the opportunity to be wrong, letting our egos subside, and proverbially “walk a mile in another’s shoes,” we might alter the course of history.

In fact, taking the time to empathize may be the first step to peace internally and in the world.
