What’s in a meeting?
When you boil it down to the purpose of a meeting, there are many reasons we choose to meet: to solve something, to brainstorm, to inform each other, or to connect while using our precious time wisely.
Beneath all of that, I believe the primary purpose of every meeting (perhaps every interaction) is to advance our relationships with each other. Whether digitally or in person, that’s it.
When considering any meeting this way, it prompts me to ask better questions and prepare myself more effectively. I consider questions like this:
- What is the purpose of this meeting?
- What experience do I/we intend to create?
- What outcomes are most important or meaningful?
- How do I need to show up to affect change, learn, create results, and have impact?
- If this was the only opportunity I had with this person/team, how would I show up?
- What can I do to make this meeting matter?
- How can I be a catalyst for everyone I’m interacting with today?
If you’re hungry for energy before, during, and after the multiple digital (and in person) meetings you have, move them from being passive to active. Your energy follows your engagement; own it.
